Luverne is divided into 5 voter districts with a councilperson elected from each district and a mayor elected at large. City officials serve a four-year term. The Luverne City Council meets twice monthly on the second and fourth Monday afternoons at 4:00 PM in the Council Chambers on East Fifth Street. City Council: The City of Luverne is organized under a Mayor-Council form of government and employs a full-time professional City Clerk who serves as the chief administrative officer under the direction of the Mayor and Council as governing body.
Joe Rex Sport	Mr. Joe Rex Sport, was appointed mayor on January 17, 2003 to fill the unexpired term of former mayor John Harrison, after having served on the city council since 1989. In 2004, Mayor Sport won election to a full term in office.
